Prashant Tamang is an Indian singer and actor who gained fame after winning the third season of the popular singing reality show, Indian Idol, in 2007. Born on January 4, 1983, in Darjeeling, West Bengal, Prashant hails from a Gorkha family.
Prashant Tamang was born to Rupa Tamang and Madan Tamang. His father, who was a constable in the Kolkata Police, passed away when Prashant was quite young. Following his father’s footsteps, Prashant joined the Kolkata Police as a constable after completing his schooling.
Prashant’s journey to stardom began when his colleagues encouraged him to audition for Indian Idol. Despite having no formal training in music, Prashant’s soulful voice and humble demeanor won the hearts of millions of viewers. His performances consistently received high praise from the judges and the audience.
On September 23, 2007, Prashant Tamang was crowned the winner of Indian Idol Season 3, defeating Amit Paul in the grand finale. His victory was celebrated with great enthusiasm, especially in his hometown of Darjeeling and among the Gorkha community.
After winning Indian Idol, Prashant Tamang released several music albums and performed in numerous concerts across India and abroad. He also ventured into acting, starring in various Nepali films. Some of his notable movies include “Gorkha Paltan” and “Angalo Yo Maya Ko.”
Prashant Tamang married Geeta Thapa in 2011, and the couple has been blessed with a daughter.
