
Kathmandu, Sunday — On the occasion of its 22nd anniversary, the Tamang Journalists Association honored journalists and individuals who have made notable contributions to media, communication, arts, and literature within the Tamang community. The awards were presented during a formal ceremony held at Melung Thakali Kitchen, Baluwatar.
The Rabindra Tamang Journalism Award–2082 was conferred upon Sunil Lama Dong, presenter of the Mhendola Fole program.
Likewise, the Dipendra Dong Memorial Journalism Award–2082 was presented to Anju Dimdong Tamang, editor at Global Media.
Birbal Tamang, editor and presenter of Nepal Television’s program ‘Tamang Tamsor’, received the Tamang Mother-Tongue Journalism Award–2082.
Similarly, the Kalika Tamang Women Talent Award–2082 was presented to theater artist Shanti Waiba Tamang. All honorees received certificates and cash rewards.




Addressing the ceremony, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kulman Ghising stated that the association has been working with a long-term vision and community-oriented focus. He expressed the government’s readiness to collaborate with the association in the coming days.
The event also featured an interactive session on the association’s past journey and the current status of Tamang journalism. Founder and writer Rabindra Tamang presented a working paper, with commentary provided by former president Subash Tamang.
Speakers including Resham Gurung, Vice-Chair of the National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities; Jagatman Dong, General Secretary of Tamang Ghedung and Director of Indigenous TV; and Rudra Singh Tamang, Joint Secretary of the Government of Nepal and founding president of the association, praised the organization’s consistent and impactful activities.

Award recipient Sunil Lama Dong also shared insights into his professional journey, challenges, and experiences in the field of communication and media.
The association also conducted its Central Committee full meeting on the same day. In a post-meeting statement, President Netra Tamang thanked all contributors and stated that the association has become institutionally stronger over its 22-year journey. He highlighted the role of past leadership in shaping the organization and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to enhancing its structure, effectiveness, and professionalism in the days ahead.
A blood donation program was held to mark the anniversary, during which about half a dozen volunteers donated blood.
